Founded in 1967 and based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Starkey Hearing Technologies is the sole American-owned and operated hearing aid manufacturer in the world. In conjunction with the Starkey Research Institute (based in Berkeley) and the Starkey Hearing Foundation, Starkey bring innovation to their design technology and hearing to different parts of the world. To date, Starkey has donated over 1 million hearing aids (for every hearing aid purchased) to developing countries with limited access to hearing technology. In 2015, Starkey was awarded the Silver Edison Award for their Halo Made for iPhone hearing aid. It was Starkey’s fourth Edison Award – previous wins included the SoundLens, AMP and XINO Tinnitus products.

Starkey Muse

Hearing aid wearers are increasingly looking for adaptable devices that will suit their unique needs, preferences, and lifestyles. Thanks to recent technological innovations, hearing devices have become more intuitive, personalized and convenient than ever. The Muse line – recently introduced by Starkey—is a great example of how this innovation can make wearing a hearing aid something that is not just a necessity, but also a convenient and enjoyable part of daily life. Muse is a full family of hearing devices that combine the best new technologies to provide high definition audio, multi-faceted wireless connectivity, improved durability, advanced tinnitus and unilateral hearing loss solutions, and a rich and nuanced sound delivery system. This line is available in many different styles and models to suit a wide variety of aesthetic preferences.

Halo: Made for iPhone

The Halo Made for iPhone hearing aid is one of the first hearing devices to achieve connectivity to smartphones, opening up a world of accessibility for hearing aid wearers. Through the TruLink app, Halo wearers are able to stream phone calls, FaceTime, music, and other media directly from their devices to their hearing aids. For an extra boost, the TruLink app turns the iPhone into an assistive listening device, using the iPhone’s microphone to amplify the sounds wearers want to hear.

For a seamless listening experience, the TruLink app also utilizes iPhone’s GPS function to automatically store wearer preferences in specific locations and makes adjustments when wearers return to that spot. The Halo has also improved speech recognition, improved sound quality with directional microphones, strengthened high-frequency audibility, and eliminated distracting feedback noises.

The Starkey Halo treats mild to severe hearing loss, and is available in receiver-in-canal and behind-the-ear styles. It is also equipped with tinnitus therapy.

Z Series

The Z Series is Starkey’s latest line of wireless hearing aids, which utilizes research and feedback from consumers and hearing specialists to improve device performance, wearer comfort, and accessibility. Powered by a new operating system, BluWave 4.0, the Z Series offers features such as Binaural Spatial Mapping and Acuity Directionality, both of which give wearers a better sense of their sound landscape and a fuller spectrum of sound. Additionally, the VoiceIQ and SpeechID features improve on speech recognition, especially in challenging noise situations.
The Z Series has also been designed with a Self Learning feature, which makes automatic adjustments according to saved user preferences, providing wearers with a seamless listening experience. Z Series hearing aids connect to personal devices through the SurfLink Mobile, Media, and Remote apps, which transform the smartphone into a hearing aid remote, assistive listening device, and media streamer rolled into one. Unlike other digital, wireless hearing aids of its caliber, the Z Series offers a long battery life.

Styles and Features

Starkey hearing aids are fully customizable and are coated in HydraShield2, which protects the hearing aid from dust, water, earwax, and oils. Available in different styles, Starkey hearing aids are designed to be comfortable, convenient, and discreet. Styles include invisible, receiver-in-canal, completely-in-canal, behind-the-ear, and in-the-ear. The Halo is available in receiver-in-canal and behind-the-ear styles only. Starkey also offers tinnitus treatment, through the Multiflex Tinnitus Technology, which is available in specific models of the Z Series. Additionally, Starkey offers invisible in-the-ear amplifiers for new comers to hearing devices. As an American company, Starkey offers benefits to veterans.
